Nancy and Ralph Smith --loving church friends for many years!
In 1958 my husband and I joined the Point Presbyterian Church along with Ralph and Nancy. They invited us to the “Couples Club” which was being held in their backyard on Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant. I remember that party 62 years ago as if it were yesterday! Later on, Ralph and Nancy had many “Couples Club” parties in their home on Princeton Rd. and Nancy and I were members of the Elizabeth/Verdella Circle that met there often.
Over the years, at church social affairs, at the Manasquan beach, and at the weekly church services, we became life-long friends. The last time I saw them was at my son Mark’s home a few years ago. Ralph was the “cut-up” no matter where he was! I always enjoyed his quips and sarcasm but pretended to ignore him. After Nancy moved from home to assisted living and demise, Ralph and I continued to communicate until his passing. He fought his illness with humor, reminiscences of Nancy and determination.
To Scott, Bryan, and Family:
Laugh and joke about your mom and dad while looking through all those photos/slides of family gatherings and times with friends, as well as notes and letters. May you find peace and sustenance in your faith with prayer. I send my condolences.

I will miss all of our nightly talks. Thank you for being a wonderful father-in-law. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

Ralph was the uncle who would always protect me as a young boy, since I was the youngest of the cousins for quite some period of time. The trips we made to Point Pleasant in the summer were always fun as a kid, and Ralph had a kindhearted spirit behind his assertive personality that kept me from being 'roughed up' too much by older cousins Scott and Bryan. I miss him and my Aunt Nancy, too. Although we had only seen them a couple of times in the past 10-12 years, I began to talk to Uncle Ralph more in the past year or so. He always wanted to speak with his family or friends, as he was lonely. We shared some laughs the last time I spoke with him a month or so ago. I will dwell on that conversation as a good last discussion with him here on this earth. Rest in peace, Uncle Ralph...you are in a better place.
