Obituary of Jeanette B. "Jean" Taylor

Jeanette "Jean" Baker Taylor, 92, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Sunday, January 29, 2017. Born in Hackensack to the late Barkos and Eleanor (Rasmussen) Baker, she lived in Ridgefield Park before moving to Point Pleasant in the 1940's. In the 1950's, she worked in the family business, Baker's Lobsters, together with her parents and later continued working alongside her brother, the late Jack Baker, growing the business to Prince Edward Island (their father's birthplace). Her love of cooking would later lead to the creation of recipes for sampling at Lobster Shanty Tuesday manager meetings including such items as corn fritters and cole slaw still enjoyed today. She later became the purchasing agent for the chain for a number of years. Subsequently, she enjoyed a special working relationship with the Priest family of Bay Head for many years until her retirement. She volunteered in a number of community organizations, including a position as an Air Raid Warden in Point Pleasant Beach during World War II, coordinating dances at the local USO and as a cashier at the Point Pleasant Hospital Gift Shop. She was a proud member of the Sons of Norway and a regular communicant of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Point Pleasant, NJ. She was predeceased by her son, Gerald Taylor; brothers, George and Jack Baker; and sister, Gloria "Lolly" Doran Kirchner. Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen McLaughlin and her husband, George of Manasquan and Hope Taylor Knapp of Point Pleasant. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Eric and Kaitlin McLaughlin, and Connor Knapp; nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Visitation will be Thursday, February 2 from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, NJ. A funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 708 Route 88, Point Pleasant, on Friday, February 3 at 10 AM, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
