Obituary of Mary Maguire Safford

Mary Maguire Safford was reunited with her beloved Lenny early in the morning of Sunday, August 20. Mary was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, on December 10, 1924 to Catherine (née Griffith) and William McGuire. She was a resident of Bayonne until 1985, when she and Lenny moved to Point Pleasant upon his retirement. A 1941 graduate of Holy Family Academy, she went to work for Royal Globe Insurance in Manhattan, leaving in 1947 to take up her chosen profession of homemaker. She was a member of the Saint Andrew's Rosary Society, Holy Family Mothers' Club, and Saint Peter's Prep Mothers' Club, and served as a den mother for the Saint Andrew's Cub Scouts. Mary was the beloved mother of Katherine Ramus (Joseph, deceased) with whom she resided, Leonard and Linda Safford of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Mary and Christopher Curioli of Bangor, Maine. Also left to mourn her passing are grandchildren Pamela and Stephen Belton, Christopher and Allison Ramus, Michael Ramus, John and Kelly Ramus, Aileen and Michael Esposito, Matthew and Nicole Safford, Lisa and Mark Reilly, Frank and Patty MacKinney, Carolyn, Sarah, and Laura Curioli, and eighteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Stelle McGuire of Palm Coast, Florida, and sister-in-law Marge McGuire of Bayonne, and many nieces and nephews. Mary Safford was the matriarch and cornerstone of her family and leaves a hole that can never be filled. She will live in our memories forever. Visitation will be from 2 – 4 p.m. & 7 – 9 p.m., Wednesday, August 23, at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 9:30 a.m., Thursday, August 24 a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Martha, Point Pleasant, followed by interment at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
